Hi - I bought A 2005 Landrover Freelander the other day and I can't seem to get the Instrument Panel Light to light up when switching the side lights/headlamps on. The garage said there should be a dimmer switch either on the right or left hand side to illuminate the dashboard but I have had a good look and i can't see anything. Any ideas??

Garage is talking out their ar*e I'm afraid - to the best of my knowledge there is NO dimmer switch.

Unlikely all the bulbs have gone - I would think think a fuse or wiring problem.

Sorry I'm unsure as to which fuse it is.

Thanks. I have tried looking through the fuses and cant find the one for that. All the indicators, warning lights etc light up when i turn the engine on just when i put my lights on there is no back lighting on the dash so when its dark i cant see my speed etc. I think a trip to the garage is needed :(

Thanks again!

There are two fuseboxes? I only thought there was one the drivers side, could be why i couldnt find the correct fuse....

Hi Katie,

I think there is only one fuse-box inside the driver's glove box in the passenger area of the car. There are another 2 fuse-boxes in the engine bay - a big one and a small one. No instrument light fuses there though.

Beware the fact that the fuse numbers in pre facelift models don't match with the numbers you have in your fuse-box.

I don't know what age of FL Dazz has, but mine gives fuse Nr 14 as being for RH headlight. Fuse Nr 18 is instrument cluster and indicators.

As it does not list a fuse exclusively for instrument illumination I would deduce that the inst lights are grouped with the sidelights which are fuses 7 for LH and 17 for RH.

Job for an auto electrician I think - but it could well just be a cable come adrift though.

Might be worth a quick check of the connections just to the left of the clutch pedal where the foot-rest pad is - around the heater area - as sometimes these can be dislodged when removing mats or if someone drives wearing large wellies or safety boots!

Good luck.

It is a possibility that all three bulbs have gone, its hapoened to me, as they are only the crappy 501 bulbs, I replaced mine with white leds and looks much better and will probly last longer

Sorry for confusing you I meant passenger compartment not passenger side:eek: I looked at the rave manual and thought instrument pack to mean instrument panel.

I have an 2004 facelift model, and today Ive posted a link on here as there does not seem to be any bulbs to replace, it looks like the background illumination comes from tiny led's soldered onto the speedos curcuit board..... Ive spent the rest of the day searching how to fix this issue and having no luck apart from to send it off to a company for them to fix for lots of money :(

I have a dimmer switch, it is on the right hand side of the steering wheel. It does not work though there is no wires coming from the back of it. I think last owner hoped it would just be a plug and play thing. The dimmer switch from what I can make out is for the US model.

Did you get it sorted out coz I have the same problem, would appreciate a heads up, thanks

Hi,

I've just had the same problem and found the manual for mine (5 door Sport 06 model) isn't quite accurate listing the fuses.

The interior dash lights are controlled by F7 - which just says "Side Lamps - LH" in my manual.

Haynes manual indicated F16 for the same use (as does it's wiring diagram) but my model F16 is interior lamps & clock.

So what I discovered is one of the headlights went and took out the interior lights. Need new fuse and new headlight bulb.

Hope this helps!?

Cheers
