If the immobaliser on my 1996 300tdi disco is playing up will the engine still turn over but not
Start or will nothing happen when the key is turned like mine does sometimes?

Mine played up and I had both conditions at various times as per you have, plus occasionally the engine would just die while I was driving. By-passed the immobiliser, not had a problem since.

If it's functioning correctly you won't be able to crank the engine.

Is it not a 2 stage imobiliser? i.e. a starter trigger cutout and a solonoid cutout? I know alot if diesels are just on the solonoid, I have taken out various systems by bypassing this part and it has worked, haven't done a landrover one though...

True, that does appear to be the only outputs for a diesel, with petrol the outputs are to the engine ecu so no fuel pump or ignition and also similar to the diesel the starter circuit. Hopefully the disco immobiliser system is not that simple and bit more involved. :)

typical! it hasn't done it since:(
if it does it again i will try bypassing the immobiliser.
where do i have to run the wire from and to???

it's a manual btw. did it again the other day so i just sat there flicking the key on and off for about 5 mins and suddenly it fired. makes me think maybe dodgey conection on starter motor or intermitant fault with starter solenoid:confused:
