Thank you all so much - I was quite worried about coming on here, but you have all been so kind in trying to help. One Discovery 2 happily purring on the drive and at least I know what to do if it happens again!!!!!

Thank you again, over and out........
Glad you got it sorted.
Next problem and issue is to stop it happening again .

You

Whoop whoop, it worked!!! Thank you all so much and espescially PopPops - I could bloody hug you!! xx
You are very welcome and I was only repeating what I've learned on here over the years.

And thank you for letting us know the outcome, so often it just goes quiet and we don't know if the car was fixed or scrapped!

Hi, it will happen again cos that's how the immobliser works so you'll have to keep entering the EKA code to start the vehicle if you dont unlock with the fob or find somebody with nanocom or similar to disable the immobiliser and set the alarm to "always disarm with key"...here's some info https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/recommendation-for-d2-owners.184078/ . Good luck

There is a generic override code which your Disco' man obviously knew.
Now you are in I would do a couple of checks. Remove the receiver in the rear of the headliner and make sure it is dry.
You can disconnect, carefully pop it open and then leave the circuit overnight in a bowl of dried rice is my recommendation.
Refit with a bead of silicon to keep it dry.
Around the ignition key is a receiver, I have not known these fail but make sure the connection is sound with no damage.
Good luck.
