Hi,
Has anyone the answer to my problem. I am having problems removing the key from the ignition on my 2001 Freelander TD4S. It can sometimes be a little awkward to get the key in the ignition, but when I stop the key just will not come out unless I jiggle it about for a minute or two.
I have tried both sets of keys and the same happens with both.
Will I need a new Ignition lock and if so are they relatively easy to fit for a ham fisted person, and how much are they to buy.
Any help appreciated
Dave

Oh, you just had to bring up the U.S.A, didn't you? I was merely thinking that since you owned a Gaylander that you had weak wrists.

Just trying to help.

Here's some real advice. If it were me, I would use the grapite instead of WD-40 and I'd try not to be a humorless nob.

WD is a cure all:rolleyes:

And i'll agree that tratterers will have highly developed right hands:D ( unless they're left handed ):p

DO NOT PUT WD40 IN THE LOCK UNLESS IT'S IN AN EMERGENCY AND TO GET YOU OUT THE DEEP STUFF AND YOU INTEND TO BIN THE LOCK AFTER.

Graphite grease (powder) is what you want.

If that doesn't work then yes you will need a new ignition lock.

Most cars you can remove just the barrel part out of the holder but landrovers like to be awkward. You will need to change the whole lock unit AFAIK. They are designed not to be removed so you may which to use some electricly powered cutting equipment to remove the old assembly in order to fit the new one.

there are plenty of secondhand ignition locks/barrels on ebay for £25-£50.

If you want the key you already have to match the new lock then you'll have to go to landrover themselves and feel the throbbing sensation in your backside.

Finally.... You take the rough with the smooth on this forum. If you want the answer to your question you also have to take the abuse that accompanies it. It's the rules.:rulez:

Now stop being a pussy.... walk outside... stick on your rhino skin coat to protect you from taking any **** taking to heart.... and when you've taken a deep breath and done yer psyching up exercises come back in and try again.;)
