Ok folks, the landy has been working fine since we got her but has been sat still for a few days with me doing some bits on her.
This morning we wanted to take her out but the engine wouldn't fire which I put down to a possible glow issue because we're not sure when she was last serviced.

As the car belongs to "the mother in law" and she was the one trying to start her this morning (her first auto) I was sceptical so was half expecting to go out and start her up straight away.

No joy, key won't turn in the ignition at all.
Still got power to the central locking.

Disco 1 300tdi ES Auto.

Thanks for that James :)

Gotta ask though: "glow plugs aren't needed for a TDi", am I missing a joke
or something here or do you mean it should start no matter their condition?

Hi if u ment that the key wont turn in the ignition it may just need wd40 in the barrel as mine did, as the key nearly broke off in the barrell. And was like new after that. If there is nothing when u turn the ignition but all electrics find then it could be the imobilizer (like mine) which cuts in and out when it feels like it. I havnt sorted that yet but if I lock and wait 20 secs then unlock with key in ignition then it starts :-(

tdi shouldnt need any extra heat from glow plugs to start,if engines in good condition
