how to tell if genuine county station wagon

Im on the market for another defender and as the title says how can i tell if genuine county station wagon because i dont want a converted one!

I've got a genuine CSW, so I am reliably informed by my local indie, but that is not reflected in the VIN.

He recons it was not uncommon for some landies to be Vin'd up but change final construction type towards the end of production, due to what was on the order books for example. It also says it was white, but again, no history or it ever being white.

As most people seem to say, the average Landie has an interesting history, but you may never be able to figure it our for sure.

you can usually tell if you know enough about what parts and styles of chassis, what year it was bult some are genuine which is usually refleced in vin, some are ringers some are rebuilds using various bits when it was legal to do so

Mine is a station wagon, and it also tells me that in the Vin:

First 3 letter are who its made by - Land Rover = SAL
Next 2 letters are model - Defender = LD
Next 1 is type - 110 = H
Next one is variant - Staition wagon = M

and so on....

pre 1994
Tell tale signs - full roof liner; split into 2 not one piece..
interior light that comes on when ya open the door..
Stereo Mount that is way too small for a modern stereo and is fitted up and underneath the top dash..
rear load liner, Genuine Land rover one..
Full front Bulkhead and floor pan covers that fit perfect with land rover foot mats.
Sun roof was originally County spec also..
Thats Practically all there is difference!

But ofcourse any of these or all can be quite easily put in.. but ya can generally tell when ones an original..

Aye. My Body Style says A:
Basic
Soft top
Pick up
Hard top van commercial

7th letter on mine is A, although it's got all of the above bits in it!
Mind you it is a hard top and was down as a "root crop harvester" when I got the V5. Told DVLA that it was a standard hard top and they sent it back as a "hatchback".

I think they have mine down as a hatch back as well.
