Have you got a copy of the bill? Can you photocopy it showing part's and labour (minus the indy's details) and post it? I know it's a tad late for you now, but it could provide an insight for other member's for what to avoid if they use a garage.
Will try on Sunday, been driving it today for a few miles and the noise seems to be a knocking which sounds as though it's coming from the front diff area and gets progressivly quicker as i speed up or slower as i slow down so i know it's transmission related, i crawled underneath today and greased the UJs on the prop shaft and noticed that i could turn the propshaft about two inches by hand, is this normal?, but do you have any thought's regarding the knocking?....cheers guys.

I'd break her for parts. I'll give ya a tenner for ya brakes?? :D what part of the world you from..someone on here might take a look at your bus for ya?? If you ask nicely.

After reading several threads regarding similar transmission issues to mine i'm probably going to do the one front wheel off the ground test for the VCU and maybe take the front prop off untill i can afford the bits to sort it-hopefully this will buy me some time.

have you been reading the freelander threads? not sure a disco has a vcu  if you take the front prop off you will need to run the transfer box in diff lock or you wont be going anywhere.

UJ on prop shaft? I'd get it fixed (or removed) - had one go once - lucky I was in work's carpark - hate to think if it had gone 20min earlier ... on the motorway
UJ fell apart and front of prop shaft dropped to ground - could probably have been in olympics for Landrover pole vaulting :)

Sounds daft but even though a UJ is literally pennies to buy i can't help thinking that even after fitting a new one it's going to be something mega like the front diff with my luck, i guess there's only one way to find out!, buy guys i really do appreciate your help and advice here.
