How i repaired and modified my FBH system

IF I did wire it so I could switch it on at will. Assuming I will get it to work. Will I be able to get it circulating on the water circuit, and fan heater without the engine running? Or do I need a lot more wizzardry than just a switch?
 
so anyway.. my wife has this stupid freelander. haha, pathetic thing, and the aux heater doesn't work... well, to tell truth, its not the wifes, its my three year old daughters car, but the wife is using it until the 3 yr old can reach the pedals.
The other day I was washing it... No not really, I was smashing the windows in the horrible thing, not like my matt black Defender with my massive chunky wheels and uprated suspension hah! anyway the bitch said to me will someone on the friendly landyzone answer the aux heater question problem, so I slapped her.. cheeky cow.
Cant stop long, got some bulls testicle to cook and eat.. hah! did I say cook? ferk that!

Removing fuse 5 kills power to it and resets it, which I did after each failed ignition cycle.

After my FBH not working after an engine change, I did the 'fuse 5 out for a period trick' to reset the system. Pleased to hear it light up again last night :D woo hoo!!!

Should really update this I suppose....

It worked fine like that, but having the switch inside the car slightly defeated the purpose - ie having to go outside to switch it on. So, The solution was remote control!
I bought this kit from Maplins....
2-Channel RF Remote Control Module : RF Modules : Maplin Electronics
And wired the output of its first channel to trigger a relay in place of the switch I had. It needs to go through a second relay as the kits own relays are only good to switch 5 amps, so a basic 4 pin 30a relay is needed to switch the power to the FBH and fan.
I took a permanant live feed from the fuse box to power the module, and a fused permanant supply the module switches through the relay to power the FBH and fan. Its all tucked up behind the centre console shoved in above and to the side of the radio. I drilled a wee hole through the dash hidden near the steering column and poked the aerial wire through there, running it up under the instrument binnacle to give a decent range. I set the module to a 15 minute pulse so now when I get up in the morning, I press the button on the fob and the FBH and fan come on and will run for 15 minutes, giving me time for toast while the car warms up. A second press of the fob button will stop it if required.

The only downside is having to carry the second remote fob on the keyring - but thats hardly the end of the world.
