Hi All. Im the New guy.

My wife got me a 1972 series 3 for Xmas and its great. goes like a rocket etc but needs a bit of tlc and a bit of an upgrade.

it has Way to much power in top gear for there not to be a higher gear or two and revving the balls off it really seems a waste of gas and ear drums.

I want to swap the diffs for some disco diffs (i just happen to have a spare few disco's at my disposal) but id like some input from some one that has done it already. or ideally i could do with a step by step guide for my mate who is good with cars (Disco especially) and he also has a car lift.

Im under the impression that i don't have to change the shafts etc and that it should be a straight swap. but not sure if this series 3 is a bit of a mismatch thrown togather by land rover to use up leaft over 2a bits and not sure if this will make a difference. it doesn't have springs at the back if this matters

any way. here are some pics i took when i got it at Xmas. apart from a few bits and some wheel paint it is still the same.

Many thanks in advance

as long as there 10 spline diffs fit straight in check rear case to see if its got filler bung otherwise you need to weld nut and drill center out to make your own or fill thru stubaxle

Welcome New guy, lucky you, great present, great wife!! good luck, with diffs, I not know much about this changeover, but someone here will, or do a search of forum, plenty of this sort of diff shennanigans goin on in these pages. I got overdrive, and happily sit at 60 on long drives with a grin on my face, and the sound of the engine making conversation intense, but possible, like being in a loud pub, or at a gig...
