hi i have just replaced my Hi and Low range shift motor. but i cant get it to work as it should is there a way to set them up as when i select either Hi or low range it seem to jam the motor up please can anyone help

it only fits on shaft coming out of t/box one way so cant get it wrong ,you can strain motor if you tighten support on rear of motor if there was a gap between bracket and box,are you ecu is okay

Take it off again and do a test, are you able to change range on transfer box with pliers/by hand? Does the motor work?
if both Okay, make sure transfer box and motor is in same position when reinstalling i.e. both in High or Low
Transfer ECU Transistors can fail, but do the tests mentioned first.

well my motor was siezed up so i took ikt too bits and cleaned it now the motor works just i cant seen to get the switch part of it right as every time i select hi or low the drive cog gets jamed on its stop and all the light on the gear shift on hi are flashing and i get select neutral so is ther a way to set the switch part up?

no because no matter wher i put the gaer cog it alwats trying to push it towards the stop and wont go the way i want it to

only goes one way ,one wire works one wat the other wire the other way ,ive normally found similar symtoms with ecu as well were it will only go one way ,try motor with plug disconnected with a earth and live feed to motor to see if it works then

after taking it to bits yesturday i tryed it off the car on a battery i had and the motor turns the cog all the way round to the stop then i switch the current and it goes in reverse and goes back to the other side of the stop so the motor dose go all the way back and forward connect it to the car and all it dose is pushed the cog against the stop and if i put the cog the other side of the stop it will do the same just push it against the stop so could it be an ecu problem with it being seized up and me trying to get it to goe into change gear range?

if the motor functions normally when mounted on the t/box and changes gear with you switching the current directly i'd suspect the ECU is f*cked.

The only other option would be that the sensors circuit in the motor itself (the other three wires on the connector) are gone bad. There were some guidelines on checking those, but i can't seem to find them right now.

EDIT: yes, if the motor was seized and you tried to operate it for a longer time (10-30min), this usually damages the ECU. Mine melted down completely.

first of all i have not checked it with the motor connected to the t/box but will try that later so if it engages hi range and low range when i jump the terminals its most likley the ECU or the sensor circuit f**ked? can the ECU be taken apart easily to see if it is blown? and as i have had this motor in bits to free it off could i have f**ked anything inside the motor or if i put another motor on it would it do the same?

the motor turns freely forwards and backwards the problem only accurs when it is plugged to the car

Micky, you can open the ECU easily, it's been done numerous times. You can even smell it before opening, if it smells of burned electronics, you can bet that there is something fishy going on in there :)

Another ECU will fit, but will have to be for the same engine (petrol or diesel) and transmission type (auto or manual) as yours. There have been numerous revisions of the ECU, so the LR factory numbers may not match with yours, but it will still work when connected.

I'd try and test the motor on the car (you can always shift between ranges manually if you realise that it doesnt work anymore). If you have opened just the motor part (the one with the rotor and stator which gets stuck) and didn't touch the sensors on the head part (the one which connects to the T/box), the motor shouldn't be the culprit.

My bets are on the ECU.

Hi all

Just thought I would ask a little ?

I have a P38 1995 4.6 auto but with mine when I put it in to D or R in hi the dash says Select Neutrel but when out on the road all drives fine (but still says select neutrel)

It will not go into Lo but the dash says Low N then i put it into D or R and we get the same thing on the dash (Select N) but we drive in Hi. So i then put the fuse into the fuse box under the seat dash says Transfer box N when I put into D or R off we go put nothing on dash only what gear we are in, No massage on the dash.

I also have had a look at the motor and all fine ie working ok when i jump the live and earth but it is not getting anythink from the car. any help please I think it mite by the gaer box ECU?

Many thanks
Shaun.

either ecu or motor ,you can check motor by disconnecting plug and using seperate feed and earth to it one feed makes motor go one way and another the other
