Help Please am i being conned ? freelancer

My Partner has a 2001 1.8 Petrol Freelander and at its 72k mile service the garage said we should change the Timing Belt and as the oil was a little milky the head Gasket,

The work was done and a few week later after taking it back to them for the car using water, the bolt for the tensioner snapped and bent all the valves.

So after they said they would sort it out which they did they presented a bill for £1100.

where do we stand the car can not of done more that a few hundred miles just on local roads in between

If they replaced the head gasket and the timing belt they should have replaced the tensioner, if the reason for the belt snapping was the tensioner then it depends on how long ago the work was done. If it was a few weeks ago as you say and the car was already using water again then I would question their work but they should foot the bill for their shoddy work. If they wont budge then threaten them with legal action or county court.

i would contact a solicitor strait away a new head gasket should come with a full 12months parts and labour gurantee the wifes did and they did the work therefor they are reposible hope this helps

If they changed the tensioner......which they should have....then it's down to them as they were the last people to touch it.

either way they tightened that bolt when adjusting the tension on the new belt.........

Sue them now they have messed up. Was the vehicle using water before you serviced it by the way?

No we she just took it in for a MOT...

I Have now received the Land Rover Schedule for the Timing Belt Job , where it clearly states that the Bolt needs to be replaced. i hope we can now get our money back.
