Update, Need Urgent help!

Yeah, so.....

As title says alternator belt snapped on the way home tonight probably because the crankshaft pulley is worn, I've been meaning to replace it.

So next job is replacing the pulley and belts.

I've done this before on a car a few(lots) of years back but memory is a bit foggy. Watched a few videos on YouTube and seems easy enough.

Only thing is I've seen on here on a few threads something about 60,60,30 or something, didn't see these mentioned on the videos, is this important?

If it is a TD4 main thing is not to use impact gun on pulley bolt or you may shatter the cast crankshaft.

There is an angular tightening procedure. I just do it tight !!

Use the castle shaped locking tool on the pulley as getting it undone is your challenge. In gear with foot brake on also helps if a manual gearbox.

Thanks Andy, yes it's a TD4 but with an auto box.

Any way to do it without the locking tool or is that a must?

Buy the correct tool & do it right. £20 on eBay.

Thanks pwood, the one I had in the basket was £30 so this one's a bit cheaper

This is the correct tool for the job, the one above will do it but you will need an extension bar on it.

Use gates belts only, and a Corteco pulley, do not buy cheap belts or pulley you will regret it.

100Nm then 60-60-30 degrees basically think of it like a clock.

The green marks are the 60-60-30.

Thanks very much for this Artic, much appreciated. I've just ordered the smaller tool but I have a few extension poles that I could use, so should be ok.

Going to local motor factors today to get the parts, they usually do the better quality stuff.

Anybody seen a worse one than this

Tensioner pulley won't move, bolt just turns in either direction but pulley won't move. What's the options?

Can't get in behind to get at the bolt to tighten, can't even find out what size it would be.

Don't forget the bolt is anticlockwise to tighten,

if the tensioner pulley will not move it's seized.

Well well well, it might come as a shock but it's seized!

Why is it the "easy" jobs seem to be the worst?

Was hoping to get the car fixed today but I'll have to wait now for a new tensioner.

What is siezed ? Is it the pulley or the tensioner ?

It's the pulley that's sized pwood, thanks I've had a look at that thread already

Gonna get my mechanic to do it though, don't know if I've mentioned before but I'm a bit disabled and yesterday and this morning has taken it out of me and I'll be too sore for the next week or so to do any more.

He's quoted me £180 for the part and labour which I thought was ok.

If he loosens the 8mm nut on the other end & squirts plenty of plus-gas in there, it might free up ? Show him the pictures in that other thread as well.

Thanks pwood I will. Think I might just get the new one on anyway as probably it's the original one on there and there's over 150,000 miles on the clock.
