ordered some new rear brake pads for my disco 2 td5 last week - £12 from britishparts, delivered next day - great i thought :)

wrong! - come to fit them yesterday & the head of the bottom guide pin bolt was badly worn - before trying to get it out (i knew i wouldn't be able to re-use it) - got 1 of the new ones out of the box with the pads - 13mm head instead of 12mm , so i removed the upper bolt ok & the bolts supplied with the pins are a different thread as well

- couldn't take old pads out to check if the new pads were correct in case I couldn't get the old bolt in

rang britishpart this morn & he said the pads sent were the correct ones but MAY have the wrong bolts or the box may be incorectly labelled - SFP 100490 (mintex part no MDB 1401) - checked mintex website & it lists MDB 2470 for disco td5 rear pads - they said send them back & they would check them & send me the correct ones. but this will cost me postage plus 3 day turnaround & dont want to do this if it's just the wrong bolts

have checked a few other websites & found BOTH MDB 1401 & MDB 2470 listed as the correct ones:confused:
to make matters even worse some said that SFP 100490 had been superseded by SFP 500130:confused:

though fitting brake pads was supposed to be the easiest job on disco td5:rolleyes:

anyone had similar experiences or recently fitted mintex pads & know the right part no? - could it be solid or vented discs have different pads?

anyway gonna take a trip to halfords & motormania on way home tonite to see if they've got any in stock I can compare them to - I know i've got the wrong bolts - just hoping they're the right pads.

ant tips on removing the rouded of guide bolts ? -soaked them with WD40 last night - gonna try mole grips on bolt tonight

right manged to find the right guide pin bolts - STC 1914 (49p each)

if I know i've got the right pads - I can order a set of bolts for the sake of a fiver plus postage

-would have been cheaper & quicker to have gone to Halfords in first place

I don't think it's often I've heard that said!

Our local Halfrauds has recently moved to an out of town location, killing our decent local independant, who used to pick up all the trade that went halfords next door, found they hadn't got anything useful, or wanted to charge like it was gold plated and then did the sensible thing.

The independant will be sadly missed.:(
