hi i have a disco 300tdi, she runs good must of the time and i have treat her to a new clutch. a couple of days ago i did about 1 mile (btw it was -5) and it cut out on me i went to start it and it was ideling bad, would not rev past 2500 revs and kept cutting out there was also lots of smoke from the exhaust white/gray. i left it a while and went to try it again and it was ok. i have since done about 40-60 mile all ok. i got some bio diesel and put it in today (aprox 3 gallon but 3 gallon of normal white as well) got about 100yards and the same thing happened to me again (also this was at -3.5) i am stumped on what it could be i have cleaned out the fuel filter and it was a bastard to start again, tryed priming it with the lift pump but would not work. so im thinking that the diesel is to thick for the lift pump to pull through (i was using normal diesel from shell when it first happened)

thanks dan

look at the thread "300tdi cold weather problems" sounds like you both have the same problem.

but its not happening all the time, do you think because of the extreme temps it could be to thick for the lift pump to pull through?

check egr valve on top of turbo isnt sticking open ,can be done away with by putting a metal plate between turbo and valve ,classic signs are clouds of dirty white smoke

Could always have a look at the fuel sedimentor, could be full of crap that's freezing and not helping the fuel get through?

The first and cheapest thing to check when there is bad running, is the fuel sedimentor.

11mm ring spanner to take the bowl off and clean it out.
