I know this has probably been done to death and my searches have given me a rough idea of the problem, just after a bit more detailed advice.

300tdi, Fan speed selector (right of steering wheel) doesn’t really do much until the very bottom of its travel, then if you hold it down with some force, the fan will come on what I assume to be high speed.

I’m assuming this is due to a slack or loosened cable, that just needs tightening up but any clues on what is needed to do this, and also, best way to access this area, it is right at the back of the engine bay

Thanks in Advance

The first part of the levers movement opens the flap in the heater box to allow air into the cab[hot or cold depending where the hot/cold lever is set] near the end of travel first the low fan speed is switched and then a little more movement puts it to high speed.

Thanks,

So is it as simple as loosen cable, pull a bit more through then re-tighten so that the fan clicks in a little earlier ?

When I got mine I had to take it apart for similar reason. Found a parking ticket (from previous owner) had somehow slipped into the unit. Removed that and all worked fine.
Just check for debris :)

I've recently had the same problem. Sealed all the heater box up. Changed the dodgy thermostat adjusted the cables and have now got it nice and toasty but just can't get the power out of the vents!!

I put mine on a toggle switch on the dash for this as mine was temperamental and low speed was a waste of time.
Mine is quite hot too.

Yes I agree - Bloody expensive and would pay 30 quid max too.

I just wondered if they were any good so that in a while when the price decreases I may be tempted.
Love the idear of side window demisting!!!

24 carrot gold plated in plastic - Love it :hysterically_laughi

It would work if you had decent enough power going to the screen vents otherwise you maybe waiting a while to demist. Also the way it's shaped maybe won't demist the whole side window?? Just a couple of inch diameter?
