Hi All,

I have just got back from taking the wife to work (Nurse) and have found my hill decent control (HDC) switch is not working when pressed. For a short while I have had two of the tree amigo's coming on intermittently (the HD light and the LR on hill light), a press on the brake pedal clears these lights, I have bought a new break light switch ready to replace as I thought this might be the cause of the lights coming on.

Would the break light switch cause the HDC not to work or is there something else wrong. Be gratefull for any help.

Cheers

I had the same problem on my 04 td4 sport. After reading several posts on here, I took out the brake light switch (it twists out easily) I sprayed copious amounts of electrical contact cleaning fluid into it whilst operating the switch...problem solved. I had the same problem with the HDC switch (probably due to the contacts oxidising through lack of use) so I did the same to this switch (it comes out easily with the plastic gearstick bezel and gator still attached), this took 3 attempts, getting better every time and is now o.k. hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Your suggestion is certainly worth a try, I've got a new break light switch just got to fit it, and I'll give the HDC switch a spray with electricle contact cleaner. Reading throught the posts on this this morning there seems to be a few reasons why this should stop working so it seems like it's going to be an elimination process.

just an update.

Sprayed some electricle contact cleaner on the cable joint plug, removed the switch from the holder and sprayed that with the same as above. Took it to a steep hill not far away to try it.

Put car into 1st gear and pressed the switch, the HDC light came on on the dash, drove down the hill in 1st to about 10mph took foot off accelerator and HDC kicked in, so I know thats now working.

The only thing thats not working at the moment is the light in the switch itself, so does anybody know if this is just a bulb replacement and if so which bulb. It looks like the top of the switch will come off with care to gain access to the bulb if it is a bulb that is.

I'm sure the HDC symbol on top of the switch illuminates when it's pressed on, my freelander is 2006 model. And yes I love a simple fix as well along with the great help from members of this forum.

is the switch on the gearstick or dash?

The HDC symbol only illuminates when the lights are on. The dash is the place where HDC operation (or otherwise) is indicated.
