just bought a 2000 td5 which so far seems good apart from one door lock which will get fixed soon, but the one fault that is really bugging me is the radio,I set the preset to my favoured listening LBC but every couple of minutes the radio changes to Radio 1 which to me is torturous it will then keep alternating between the two stations but can be returned to LBC by selecting the preset station again but after a few minutes starts swapping again. Is this a known fault or do I just look for another radio?

You don't say what manufacture/model of radio u have, but some have the strongest station search facility on FM, therefore if that facility is activated this will happen, it's handy when travling a cross country as soon as a station gets weak the unit will go and find a new station for you, it's mostly the BBC as the have the strongest transmitters but can work with the commercial stations as well.

In you case LBC is a weak station in your area. If you have this facility just turn it off.

So then you get an aftermarket one and there's the hassle of getting it to work with the damned steering wheel switches. AArgh!

I think its called RDS, as u say when you start to lose signal it re tunes itself for you, sometimes it gets it wrong I can get radio 1, heart and classic fm all changing between channels.

Come to think of it the radio in the conserv can be on radio 1 when I leave for work and classic/heart when I get back (very close bandwidths).

Must admit radio 1 does play a lot of ****, especially during the mainstream hours.

thanks for the reply,I should have said I have the original land rover radio fitted, the satation search facility sounds a possibility I will have to look into disabling this when my wife comes back in the landy, cant get her out of the bloody thing but shes not quite so keen on driving my 109 series 2a,something about brakes and steering being a little heavy, dont know what she means and at least it has no radio issues apart from the fact you couldnt hear one if one was fitted

Yes it's one of the functions within the RDS or Radio Data System. I never used the radio side of my head unit, it's just used to play the six CDs plus another six in a spare second cartridge, but I know at the first sign of a weak radio signal it's off to find a new one ... perfect ... well it would it's a -Pioneer.:D

The standard radio / cassette has RDS (at least the high line R990 one does) and AFAIK this can't be turned off.
