My TD4 handbrake would not hold the car on a slope, I had to leave it in gear. Following the advice found on this forum i armed myself with appropriate tool and a can of plus gas to free the rusty leaver in the nearside brake.
On inspection i found the handbrake cable had not been fitted corectly and wasn't pulling the operating leaver as far as it should.
The cable slots into the leaver and is held in place by the ferrel, the leaver is shaped to hold this in place. This one was wedged betewwn the fixing slot and the back plate.
Cable located corectly, handbake working and holding the car.
(I will remember to take photos next time)
