Any idea why my oil light flickers when the engine is warm? I change the engine because it was doing it on the engine that was in it.. 200tdi disc lump.

New engine had new bearings and rings ect. I've tried new pressure switches ect... Strangely when it flickers I get a relay clicking with it inside the center fuse box, I thought this was the oil light relay however with the relay u plugged the light is still on. Pressure gauge showing about 10psi when warm and on tick over and maybe as low as, 8 when it's absolutely red hot. I'm assuming anything engine wise it isn't. I guess my question is what could cause those electrically. Thanks

Is this a mechanical or electronic pressure gauge? Also, how has it been connected? Assuming this is a 200tdi, 10 psi is too low. Should be at least 20 but check the WSM for specs.

8 psi?
I think that the pump should be chucking out at least 20 on tickover and around 35 to 45 when running!
What oil are you using?
Is there any obstruction in, to or from the oil cooler?

It’s probably flickering because the pump is failing and can’t maintain the pressure.

8 - 10psi is to low, my 200tdi is never less than 20psi even when good and hot.

Grade of oil, and sensor and gauge inaccuracy would be first points of call. And any idea how worn your oil pump might be?

it needs checking with a real gauge at the switch hole

You changed an engine because of this? Bit extreme that isn't it? You could try replacing the whole car, see if that solves the problem.
I had other issues with the old engine. Mainly the piston rings blowing past as it was really worn but Yeh I guess changing the truck might fix it.

Tickover too low???
Not that I'm aware. Sits ticking over lovely just flickers when warm.

Electrical pressure gauge a cheap one to be fair on eBay, new pressure switches also tried to as well, both can't be wrong surely

I changed the rad last year so that would of had an oil cooler in the rad it I could take the feed and return off I guess and check to see if there is flow
I wonder if the stat is stuck open.
What stat?

The engine came out of a friend's truck and never had any problems with the oil light flickering in his, I had the problem on the engine before this.

I've had a search about this thermostat In the oil cooler housing, a common I've r looked item and I know that my filter housing is the one from the original 19j which I have put on two 200tdi lumps whilst I've owned the truck so when I get back from holiday I'll be going to Paddocks for erc5923. It's something I've never changed so worth a try.

I wonder if that's your problem mate, I remember having to change the housing on my 19J and I cant remember if the two were the same or not, might be worth checking the part numbers, if they are the same you need the stat from a 200 not a 19j, they may have different operating temperatures.

When new engine stripped down did you check the cam bearings, especially the rear one?

10 40 the oil but u have also tried 20 50. How would I check the pressure at the switch hole. Could the wiring be causing it give a false reading
with a proper gauge you cant go further without knowing actual pressure
shopping

Hoping so, the part number I have is
Erc5923 which lists as 300tdi but I'll also ask at Paddocks when I'm there.

Yes all looked fine. It was the first time I'd ever stipped an engine down

I'll change the oil housing thermostat and if it continues I will get a tester brought.

There was some posts on the series2forum a while back where people were having oil pressure issues and they fixed them with new vac pump o-rings, three in total Iirc, Im not totally convinced but got to be worth a look?
