Hi guys, is it possible to change the glow plugs on the bmw 2.5 tdi P38 without removing the high pressure fuel lines to the injectors.

yes can be done, but a bit fiddly, make sure to change the leak off pipes while your doing this job, a few quid extra but worth doing. You will need a long socket too.

Get a good make of plug, if you don't next time you change them the tops will brake off, and then your in a land of hurt!!

Silly question, but have you checked that you have power going to your glowplugs:confused: Often it is the glowplug relay or other electrical problem rather than the actual glowplugs at fault and it's a lot easier to fix an electrical problem than change the glowplugs.

Thanks guys, yes checked the power going to them. Think I have 2 / 3 duff plugs. Takes 2 heats and a lot of cranking now to get going. 3 / 4 cylinders will kick into life others are slow. Everything else id ok, its a job i've been putting off. but no cant.

Hi. Sry to jump in, but woz wondering if anybody would know if the glow plug relay woz faulty, could it drain yr battery?
Reason I ask is coz I have a 95 dse which seems to have the battery go flat after a couple of days, especially when we have had a cold spell.

thanks

Change your battery it's knackered. Cold weather finds out duff batteries.

thanks for reply.
woz thinking that.
but my lads friend did a diag on the p38 and mentioned something abt the glow plugs but not sure wot he said.
I knew it woz not the plugs themselves as have not long fitted new ones, that I woz wondering if its possible for it to be the relay itself

More likely to be the RF receiver, check also that when you take the ignition key out that you don't get the "Ignition Key in" message as that will also keep the BECM awake.

Dopey. The Wellman ones broke up in my engine. the ends appear to melt and when you pull them out they break up, if not before. I have fitted Bosch, from a Bosch Agent to my new engine.

Hi
Have just located a rf receiver for my 95 rangie and woz just wondering that if I swap them over, will i have to reset anything or should it be a simple swap over.

Congratulations on one helluva highjack.
The R.F. receiver is just that, a receiver, no you don't have to set or re-set anything.
