I believe you boys need to take a look at the sticky at the top of the page. :)

It will tell you all about legal and responsible laning.

Its not that its "worthwhile" to check if a lane open. Its a requirement! you have to!
If it has a TRO you are breaking the law by driving it, its not just the council saying please dont use, its a lawful closure.

The reason a lot of the fosse way is closed is due to irresponsible driving and the council having it downgraded as the surface cant cope with heavy use.

Finally getting somewhere,

Considering that the last OS survey was done in 2006 I suspect most of the routes that are shown on the maps sold by OS are in fact now reclassed so honest drivers cant use them,

I should also just say, as a country lad/bumpkin, I have always followed the "campsite rule"

For those that dont or haven't heard of it, Leave the site as good or better than you found it, all ways take your rubbish back with you.

It appears something has happened without our knowledge Glos people,

Further to your enquiry concerning byways open to motor vehicles, unfortunately we have very few in Gloucestershire, a total of 3.23 miles there are only 8 locations listed below. These will be shown as brown lines on our prow map which you can access by going onto Gloucestershire.gov.uk, then click on travel/road/parking, then prow page on the right hand side under related web site there is a map.

Carol

She presented me a list of those 8, was quite disappointed.

You don't. It will be out dated tomorrow.

Exactly thats why its important to check with the ROw team at the council as the OS map cannot be relied on for up to date info.

I dont doubt your intentions honestly i dont, but experience tells us to be wary of anyone you dont know. This is an open section of the forum so any tom dick and harry can see the info you write.

The over all idea is to trust no-one you dont know, if people are that desperate to find the locations of lanes it isnt hard, you follow the advice given here:

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f13/how-find-greenlanes-180764.html

The reason we dont openly publish lane info is it then becomes easy for the twunts to simply jot the info down and off they go to see how stuck they can get. The mind set of these fools is that there not usually too bright so if it involves effort to find the info like emailing the council, they dont usually bother and they just stick to the lanes they already know. Although not ideal, it certainly keeps damage to lanes to a minimum.

Its the case with alot of councils, there really isnt many byways left mainly UCR's now. :(

Ask redhand and Blue Beasty to take ou out when they have a moment. You couldnt ask to go out with 2 more knowledgable chaps. Seriously, if your not a tool they will help you out. :)

i didnt mean it to read that way i meant its better to be right in knowing you can drive the route your on if confronted by anyone

Just bought some mud tyres so I cant go anyway, dont need anything as well,

Not sure what lanes I might go down, you may want to lead BB, I found my self going faster than advised, could be a fun weekend ahead !

You int gonna be going very fast if ya following my big fat arse :D

We can put our heads together and come up with a route. If it's just us we could explore a few unknowns I've been meaning to check out but if more come along we'd best stick to what's known

Dont mind, either is good,

Hoping to get my mud tyres ad Hi lift by then, not sure if I can get the winch working on my D1 by then though, got no controls for it, and its not connected to battery yet, not sure if its all there and just needs juice, jump leads to get it working maybe needed lol

I'll have a word with me Doris and see if she wants to come along and if the day makes any difference.

I'll bring me Hi-lift and can probably pikey Pikeys tirfor but it's unlikely to come to that so long as I don't wedge meself in a bank again
