Hi all, first time poster here, I have had a 300 disco in the past but have been scouring this forum for a while trying to absorb as much knowledge on p38s before taking the plunge.. but I have one question before I do. I appreciate there will be faults aplenty but now they are all 20ish years old am I going to be finding that the general vehicle wiring is disintegrating around the car or can I expect just a few more faults than say 10 years ago?

Thanks for looking,

DeRangie

Wiring is good even on my 1994 scrapper. Water ingress causing ECU and connector problems is one of the causes of problems. Wet mats in the drivers foot well indicate either heater O rings failed or rainwater leaks round the scuttle and pollen filter fixings.
Keep them dry and the electronics are pretty good in my experience. apart from the FOB RF receiver.
Post 99 are better.

A few problems with bad earths but not with the wiring as far as i know, some of the components give up eg height sensor drivers door lock and a few others but they are all known faults and easily sorted with the help on here.

Thanks for the reply's, at the minute i'm looking at an 01 4.6 jap import. That does fill me with a bit of confidence. Like most people I suspect, I'm not bad mechanically but complex electronics are scary .
Also with them getting on a bit what are spares like? I know pretty much most things are available but are a few sensors etc becoming hard to find or generally still okay?

Cheers,

Not found anything that cannot be obtained with a bit of searching, the big plus is that parts are cheap.:D

That's what I was hoping to hear more or less. Thanks for the advice guys. May well be back pretty soon..
