Hi all

I know there is loads of fuel burner posts but this one I'm baffled by and can't find the answer and I think my garage is taking the **** too.

Took my freelander in for a service got them to do a lot of things to her, one thing I asked in particular was to look at my FBH because I wasn't get much hot air inside the car and after driving an hour to work the FBH was still making the normal whirring sound of it going. I know it should have cut by then because after an hour of continuous driving the car should be up at normal temperature but even after this longish journey the air inside was nothing to shout about.

I thought it could be one of a few things: the thermostat wasn't working too well or the coolant need changed seeing the coolant hasn't been changed in about 6/7 years or there was an air lock in coolant.

Got it serviced they changed the coolant great but they said thermostat is working and they plugged it into diagnostic but computer said it was working fine but having driven to work yesterday and today the FBH is still going while I'm driving all that time and I'm still not getting much warm air inside car.

Am I being taken for a mug by garage in that they say there's nothing wrong and when they handed me car back they said "oh there's a good bit of warm air inside now" but I've had several people sit inside her and say is that as warm it'll get. My old freelander which I still have throws out warmer air in a shorter time and it doesn't have a FBH

Anyone any clue? I still maintain its a dodgy thermostat because on occasion it will get a wee bit warmer inside then other times you'd get more heat if you lit a fire in the back.

Where does everyone's thermostat gauge sit on their TD4's? Mine doesn't make it past the printed symbol on dash mine just comes up to the little squiggly lines representing the water/coolant. I've included a pic of my dash although I haven't ignition turned on cos I'm sure my car has cooled since I've got home.

Ahh right yeh that's what I meant does it make it up to 9 o'clock position. Thanks for the reply then it def must be my thermostat unless anyone else on here can suggest what it is because mine only moves up to about 7 o'clock or jus slightly above the second white tick on gauge

don't mean to make you sound dumb, but, mine normally sits just under half way, and gets there within 5-10 mins, with lots of hot air coming out.

BUT, in this recent cold weather, really struggles to get warm enough, only really heats up to half way point when I get stuck in traffic.

Normally have to turn the heater down after about 15 mins, but lately, could take up to half an hour if not longer. I just put it down to lower outside air temp.

This would also cause the FBH to stay on longer too.
