right my freelander has a vibration at 50mph and a droning sound when you get to 70mph

i have been looking under the car buches all seam to be ok and new on the propshaft. only thing i have noticed is that the front prop shaft has spat grease/oil every where.

is there a repair unit for this as i think this could be causing me my vibration or am a wrong on this?

well today i swaped the tyres front to back and checked them over for egg balls and feathering etc and all are round and fine.

the vibration has now gone on swaping the wheels over.

but the droning sound is still there, the droning i cant work out where its coming from its deffo not comeing from one corner.

i have checked the VCU bearings and also done tipex check and all is fine there.
on double checking the bearings on the VCU i removed the prop to double check them.

while it was off i tested the car and the droning sound has gone. could the drone be from the IRD??

i also checked all wheel bearings and drive shafts for play and couldnt find any thing wrong with them all.

Is it more of a whine sound than a drone?

more of a droning. it only comes in at around 70.

forgot to say in the last year the car had the VCU rubber replaced and one bearing replaced.

if the boot has split on the front prop to IRD (i assume thats what your description explains), this CV joint could nopw be dry, and/or the roller needle dropped out from the CV joint, this gives the exact symptoms you describe. Its very common for the boot to get split when the prop is taken off if the mechanic has been a little rough. Also have you had new tyres recently, is the vcu getting warm??

yer the boot is split on the cv at the end of the shaft and spat its grease every where. but i would have thought that this would have given me the vibration. which has now gone on swapping the wheels front to back.

would the split/worn cv on the drive shaft give a drone sound when at speed?

yes it has had new tyres and i have checked and they are all the same height all round, the newist ones are now on the back but all seam to have the same amount wear on them.

yes the vcu was getting warm but that was before the tyres had been swaped didnt check it once i had swapped them as i removed the prop after that drive to see if the drone had gone which it has

if i refit the front rear prop and vcu, will this still spin to make sure the rear diff and vcu bearings are all ok? as thinking of fitting the rear prop see if thats ok and then refitting the front prop with out the rear one fitted to see if the droning comes back and also seeing if its there with the complete prop and vcu unit?

Yes, the garage did removed it as still under warranty and the noise stopped as it was the rear tires.
I took my FL to 3 seperate tyre dealers and all of them told me there was nothing wrong with the tyres and it was in no way the cause of the problem.
After the garage did all the tests with removing props and swapping tyres about it proved them all wrong as it was the rear tyres.
