Hi, can anyone help?
I"m having problems with my 2001 TD4. Yesterday I locked it in Tesco"s car park using the key and when I came back to it I couldn"t get the key in the drivers door lock. Now you may ask, why aren"t you using the remote central locking. Well the problem is whenever I lock the car with the key fob remote within a few minutes the alarm goes off and keeps on going off. So my question is? Can I disable the alarm system until I can get the door lock fixed(I"ve had a quote of £170 just for a new lock) and can anyone hazard an idea of why the alarm goes off in the first place. I know the door barrel is knackered and does need changing but can I use a second hand one complete with the keys from a scrapped Freelander? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

I had that problem of not being able to get the key in the drivers lock, what had happened was the metal dust guard that should fold out of the way got stuck. I removed the door handle to give access to the lock barrel and re-fitted the dust cover properly - the cover of the barrel had worked lose allowing the dust cover to move. All has been fine since.

Hi Mantamad,
Thanks for your reply. Is it easy to take the barrel out. I have taken the interior door panel off but I"m not sure what to do next. Can you help.
Dave.

Yes it is easy to do. Now that you have the door card off, unbolt the exterior handle from within the door - 2 bolts, 10mm from memory. Disconnect the operating rod from the handle where it connects to the latch (again inside the door) there is a small plastic retaining clip around the rod, prise it off then it hinges down to allow the rod to come off.

After that just lift out the exterior handle from outside the car and the barrel should just fall out.
