I understand the Freelander 2 TD4 engine is a Ford product.
What vehicles - apart from another Freelander - could be a source for a replacement engine?

It's actually a PSA/Ford unit. However I don't believe that it's a straight swap from any PSA or Ford vehicle.

You're welcome.

May not need a replacement engine. Vehicle has 121000 miles on the clock, pulls like a train, all the bits work but there is a smell of burned oil coming into the cabin. Earlier smell of diesel in cabin cured by replacing injector seals on top of head (pollen filter replaced). When doing this, found oil in intake downstream of point where breather enters the air intake pipework so engine is a heavy breather. Can this oil be leaking out into the engine bay rather than being burned through the turbocharger?

120k miles is nothing for the DW12, it's capable of well over twice that distance with regular servicing. Oil in the intake is normal for these. If there's a problem with crankcase pressure, then release the oil filler cap and let it sit on the filler loose while the engine is running. If it stays put, the engine is fine, if it blows off there's an issue.

Have you checked to see if the air intake pipe is leaking where it joins the turbo down pipe? Normally the factory hose clip stops sealing, allowing oil to drip down into the turbo making an oil burning smell inside the cabin. Replace the factory clip with a proper worm drive clip, and ensure the seal isn't flipped before tightening the hose clip and the oil smell should go away in time.
