HI all - I have been viewing this site for months but only joined tonight and its fab, I own a freelander 1 and bought it as a bit of a toy, I always used to tinker with cars years ago but haven't in recent years..... anyway can I have your valuable input into how easy people think front brake/disc replacement is on the freelander 1 - a well know garage chain want £210.00 to do this but I think that parts come to about £80. Any pitfalls I should look out for when replacing them myself or should I not bother ?.

Many thanks - Dave

they are a piece of cake to change, the only difficult bit is undoing the retaining screw on the disc.
i found an impact screwdriver most helpful to do this ;)

Cheers thanks - I figured they were ok-ish to change and also sourced replacement retaining screws but just wanted to know if there were any pit falls - I am going to order the parts tonight - I will post later in the week to advertise my success lol.

i fitted pagid discs and pads;)

and i never refitted the retaining screws

i took some pics and they are on my "what have you done to your freelander today" thread (somewhere)

I don't think I have ever changed pads of a freelander and the sliders not be siezed. Make sure they move free and grease them up a bit.
Disk retaining screws - give them a sharp tap with a hammer and the shock shouldn't make them so tight. I normally squeeze the caliper piston back with a big set of plummers pliers

Done mine last night. Really easy job, took 30 mins a side. Helped that i replaced all the brake bolts a couple of weeks back when i first got the car.

used a caliper rewind tool which i bought of ebay and it made life so much easier. undone the brake fluid resiviour cap so the excess had some were to get out.

All in im pleased that i no longer have brakes which squeal. well worth doing

Although noticed when having a look at the sliders, x2 per side one has a rubber making it stiff to go in and out, the other doesn't have a rubber and glides really easily
this was the same on both sides. seemed weird to me
