Just wondering if anyone knows a good place to get the special tools for the diff rebuild, I have already got the pinion locknut special tool from paddocks, but need the torque measurement tool and the support frame. The only place I could find these was on JLR Tooling and equipment shop and they only supply companies. Failing that how can I measure the torque on the pinion bearing.

I had the same issue, so used a length of wood. It doesn't need to be an elaborate tool, it simply stops the pinion falling out while the tail bearing is pushed into place.

You can use any device that measures rotational torque, the cheapest being a digital torque gauge. I set mine at about 1.5Nm, which is considerably less than the 45Nm I measured when I took my replacement diff apart.

Just wondering if anyone knows the pinion height tolerance on a 2a diff. I have pinion height of 38.42mm . Should be 38.01.
I'm to high by o.41mm.
This is after replacing all the bearing.

This section is for Freelander vehicles, and this thread relates to the Freelander 2 rear diff, which has nothing in common with a series diff, except it uses oil for lubrication. ;)
