if its a dealer you bought it from youve got some chance of getting somewhere..eventually..but if its a private seller which i assume it is you aint got a cats chance in hell of getting anything from him.

What a shame, let's hope you get some sort of recompense from the sellers ... Have you considered trying to open a dispute via Ebay?

I'm sure someone will have a spare enjun that might come your way.

Thanks for the comments guys.
I can tell you i'm feeling pretty deflated right now and yes it was a private sale so not got a cats chance unless he feels like giving some good will. At the moment his phone goes to answer service and he hasn't responded to my last txt so am guessing he's berrying his head on it and i'm 8hrs away from him to try and talk sense with him. Not even sure i can dispute it on ebay and not even sure how to start on that as never had to before. I'd like to give him a couple days to respond and see what he says.
The engine WAS a 300tdi. It's not even showing signs of head going, overheating or any of the usual. To all intense and purposes its fine but for a big amount of clunking inside, so its clearly not.
I was doing 60 when it gave out. Is that to much for one of these!! my old TD would do that without blowing up.
If anyone knows of a good replacement it would be good to hear about it.
I have been offered a running engine, still in landy and with the cam belt being done when he takes it out for £450. Would that be good.
Of course i have the fitting costs on top. Also gonna look for a disco transfer box as the existing looks damaged and as i believe she'll handle a little more speed with that on. Is that right??

Dreading all this cost now :hurt:

have had 2 separate mechanics look at it and the last is a guy who does landy's all the time.
They've had the rocker cover off and all looks ok up there, but when you try and turn engine there's a lot of resistance and if you put it in gear and rock it there's a loud clank/rattle coming from the mid engine.
Tow's ok in neutral but only with transfer box in neutral also. Prop shaft removed now.

The choice on offer with engines are all 300tdi. 3 of them to choose from i think. This is one of my customers who recons landy gearboxes and scraps a few motors etc.

I've just lost confidence in knowing how to spot what's a good one or not.

He's know to a member on here but i don't believe he's a member on here.
I'm a fair man and would like to see if he will show some good will before getting heavier on him, and i'm very mindfull of not wanting the member from here, who was good enough to give it a once over prior to my going all the way up there, to feel that i am in any way appointing any blame towards him. I MOST DEFF AM NOT. It's my loss and my choices. I was very gratefull for his support along with others that have done similar and given advice.

Small claims court private sellers are under as much obligation as a trader when it comes to selling a vehicle..

yeh, spoke to a contact i have in trading standards about that and as he hasn't done some of the work he stated in the add i have a case on to put forward on that aswell as what has happened.
just hoping i can sort it without all that hassle to be honest. Just want her up and running asap. Will chase with small claims once i have a cost to recover figure and no joy with other options i'd like to give him.
Lets hope he does the right thing. Just not confident that he will. Still no response to my tries to reach him.
Might have to send him a nice letter highlighting the situation shortly.

If it has been misrepresented in the advert then you can take him to small claims court as the contract is void/voidable
