good day gents;
today my engine decided to let go,while driving it suddenly i felt a missfire and juddering upon acceleration,and upon looking at my rear view mirror steam was blasting like a steam engine train :doh: went to the garage after 5 minutes of driving,checked for faults and live readings nothing was there,then when we looked at the coolant level it has dropped almost half of it,mind you there is no over pressurizing,no overheating,engine is smooth as a mouse,we opened the oil filler cap and there was moisture inside of it.
my friend the mecanic insisted that it wasn't a blown h/g and said he thinks that the liners have slipped but didn't confirm it untill he will start ripping the engine off tomorrow morning.
How can liners slipp like that or the engine give up without any sign of overheating or over pressure?strangely the temp gauge sits in the middle all of the time.
what can cause this if i didin't have any signs of overheating and always checking the oil level and coolant?
but i did notice that i have been adding coolant almost once per week due to leaking hoses as i presumed and that i have replaced.
The only solution is a second hand engine from a breaker and or your suggestions to avoid an engine replacement.:confused:

do not buy from a breaker,go for a recon short engine or complete,it is a big job to take out the engine,and if your putting in an unknown engine,you maybe taking it back out again,no guarantees you are not going to buy an engine with the same problem.
at least with a recon you get some guarantee, i wouldn't pay a mechanic to tell me what i already know,save your money and stick in a recon lump,your going to have to bite the bullet either way.
just my opinion others will be along with theirs:D

Sounds more like head gasket to me. I think if you had a slipped liner then you would get pressurising.

IF and only IF a replacement engine is your final option (not HGF or broken water pump, etc) You could try Irontite. I put the stuff in my engine last week as the colling system was pressurising after about 15 mins of driving and so far have done 700 miles and no water loss or other (engine)problems. I did this as a last resort after checking the liners (twice) pressure testing the heads and 2 sets of head gaskets

Contacted my friend mecanic today,he informed me that there was a rolled side of the h/g letting water in,and there was a single plug from the 8 that was oily,hw will check to see if the heads need skimming and if they can take more skimming because they were skimmed by the po before.fingers crossed hope it will be only the gaskets.now the oily plug worries me.

replaced the h/g skimmed the heads and new oil new plugs,let see how she drive,apparently it is fixed,fingers crossed,the liners didn't slipp,dunno about cracks in the block though,but one thing i am sure of "never say it is fixed before one month of driving",cheers.
thank you for your help
