Hi there

I am about to pull the existing engine and gearbox out of our series 11a landrover and fit the engine and gearbox from a seriess 3 landrover I bought for spares. Is there anything that I need to be aware of as the project does seem pretty straight forward, famous last words!!

Thanks for your time

There's loads to look out for; the clutches are completely different and the s3 bellhousing won't fit unless you take out the strengthening fillet on the left hand side of the gearbox cross member.Engines are bascially the same but make sure you have a s3 clutch with your engine. You can do easily the other way around but s3 units into a 2a chassis is much more than meets the eye.

am sure yer talking bollocks, any differences can easily be overcome by use of yer hammer and or grinder and in some cases a welder. it might not be a straight swap but there int nowt difficult in doing it

Possibly, but I was addressing the question posed, namely, what is involved in putting a s3 engine and box into a 2a, which is a different problem to putting the 2a lumps into a s3. ATFQ......

ffs drop the fooker in place, remove any bits of metal that interfere, then conect up yer clutch hose from slave to master. the rest should be fairly simple. am sure ther's a couple more things that need looking at but i can't be arsed to think of them as its too simple a transplant.
its not like putting an injected v8 into it

There are some differences (2a clutch slave cylinder on the offside and on the nearside in a 3) but don't be put off by these it should be a simple swap, if you have a complete donor vehicle to rape for bits.
Just take your time and think before you cut anything.
