Hi,

i've installed a new alternator and battery on my series 3, and also replaced wiring from the alternator to the starter solenoid and other connections into the loom. The starter solenoid has the brown wire from the alternator, the postive wire from the battery and another brown wire that goes into the loom then into the dash. These 3 wires are on the same screwed connection on the starter soleniod. There is awire going the the starter. There is also a black wire that goes to the push button starter in the cab from a push fit connection. There is also a red/white wire that goes into the loom.

The Land rover starts Ok, and the receives 14v to the battery. However, I did not start the landy for a week, and found a completely flat battery. It would not even charge! It appears I have a drain on the battery, but need help on how to resolve the issue.

cheers

The white/red wire is the original starter switch connection which has been replaced by the black wire. There should be two brown wires from the alternator to the solenoid (one is the current feed from the alternator, the other is a voltage sensing return for the regulator) and a brown/yellow wire to the dashboard ignition light.
Disconnect the battery live and stick an ammeter in circuit to see if there is actually any drain and we can take it from there. If there's no drain it's a buggered battery - possible even if it's new. If there is a drain, try disconnecting the alternator. If the drain stops you've got a faulty alternator.
