Do you where can I get one of those electrical thermo coupler ming??
Ok before ya go a modding with leccy pumps and thermo gismos, consider the basics first when ya motor is started from cold the water temp starts ta rise ,the wax thermo is shut, so most of your hot water goes to yer heater first, so ya can get yer heater on quite quick, then as temp reaches the set point yer thermstat opens and so cooling of the engine accurs, the very hot water is then pumped round yer rad, hence cooling and recycled again,so clutchy is correct ya dont take out the thermostat,so what will ya achieve with a electric pump , ans=nothing really maybe a twiddle bit more mpg as for bhp gains , na be like **** in the sea,so if ya want ta waste ya money, its your call, best oh luck

I think ya missed the point... first - yu cant remove the thermostat in a V6, coz it is in a moulded plastic dooberry (pile o sh**). secondly yu dont need to - the advantage of a 'lecky pump is that it will work at a constant flow, irrespective of engine speed, thereby reducing hotspots and secondly it is possible (with minor mod) to enable the pump to continue after the engine is stopped, thereby reducing core temp of engine, and not allowing it to be a heat soak. turdly - if it is thermostatically controlled it wont affect initial warming up at all - coz it wont be on.
It wont increae BHP or increase fuel consumption unless you remove the mechanical water pump. The electric pump would only be used as an additional device.

its also recomended for 4x4 if the engine is running at high revs with low airflow thro rad - such as using low gears in ya offroady bits.

Aha now i see where ya going now floppy, yes i did miss the point and i agree if ya run the pump after engine off for a time period it could possibly help with temp build up,also going on slightly different route,on the old type wax thermo stats, you could adjust them , so just my thoughts on the problematic hg engines it might pay to lower the temperature, just an idea. . .:)

LOL I wouldn't even pretend top know where the thermostat is on my 1.8 peetrol jobbie:D

I'm no mechanic but I got a feeling the hippo's gonna send me on one helluva learnin curve;)

hoho
yu mist out one incy wincey word PJ - EXPENSIVE!

part number is PCF500060, its £15.50 but the description on microcat says "expansion tank with sensor", it definately dont look like an expansion tank!!!!

It is fitted below the tank on the pipe that comes from the bottom of it, looks like a pump to me and its fitted too low to be a level sensor

ta Clutchdust - alot cheaper than £125 for electric pump as referred to in forst post - will try and have a look at local LR dealer tomoz - bet they dont have one in stock ;)

it's gotta be worth investigating - aint it? If it reduces HGF on 1.8 & V6 lumps its gotta be the best £15 anyone spends on a Hippo. Every time I look at mine its £200 - £15 is mere baggatel...

Hi agin guys (still mifft I mist out on the drinkies last nite Minge)

i have bin to my local LR dealer this morning. Yes the latest 2006 1.8 Hippo HAS had a mod to the water system:D , but it appears just to be a new designed expansion bottle:( , but with a water level sensor:rolleyes: fitted at the base (items 11&12) - so at least yu now know when the water has gone:eek: !!! Not the pump I woz hoping for (at £15!:) ), but still might be a wise move, for those who dont check their water every 10miles! or so...;)

I enclose exploded view for your perusal:D

all we need now is one of yu brite sparks to decide how to wire it in retrofit - I know there are spare warning bulby things on the dash........

get it fitted daft hat then let us know the results, if it works i could advertise hgf cure for freelanders £100. ;)

how about a bit of conserted effort here from all of us - we must have at least one brain cell between us to resolve some of these issues; instead of just takin the P***?

Well i think yer leccy pump idea with run time is a good un, the biggest probs with the k engines is ,crap hg material, not enough cooling from rad, so if ya get even the slightest of overheat pow hg go's or warpy head, so i think floppy is on the correct lines, also a bigger rad will help a lot , but that don't get ya away from the crap hg material, just my opinion. . . .:)
