egr pipe

Hi bit of advice i am going to change the egr valve for an all sport when found allow but for now i cleaned out the old one at the weekend and cleaned the pipe had a look under the bonnet today and noticed the pipe is oily on the outside again its not loose dose the oil bleed throw the pipe is this why people fit silicon pipes

You are absolutely right - the standard rubber pipes become porous after a few years and the oil gets through them.

Best turbo hoses IMHO are from DPH (Derby Performance Hoses) - genuine people and very helpful. Small factory and personal service. I visited them last year.

If your pipe is oily on the outside change it ASAP it will split soon and lose all power etc. I had it happen on mine - new pipe transformed it.

Yes will change soon as poss how do i know if mind has three pipes or two were is the small pipe don't seem to be able to see one anybody got pics thanks mine is a 2000 reg did they fit one

just changed my oily egr pipe. DPH hoses are great value and they even did me them in my own colour!.

p.s one of the hose clamps supplied by DPH wouldnt fit my egr bypass as it is slightly wider than the standard freelander egr - I had to use the old band clamp, I had another use for the T-bolt clamp that was too small anyway

'cause i think the egr pipe be the one that's missing from the .. yet-to-receive .. 'kit' ..
( i've an egr 'delete' .. but yet to be installed )

disclaimer: i've only had this motor a few weeks ..
'n it be the first one i've owned that has a turbo/intercooler/engine management comp.
and a multitude of electronic sensors / crowded engine bay ... etc etc ..
prev cars owned have been built over 30 yrs ago .. 'n d.i.y friendly ..
as is .. am still trying to figure the air intake route ..
i'm guessing its .. filter .. turbo .. intercooler .. egr valve .. intake manifold ..
( if that's wrong .. please correct .. cause i be slightly confused ..
( despite having the haynes manual .. this site .. and staring at the engine bay ..

Hi,

You're right about the air-intake route - it really does go 'round the houses'.

Here's a pic of my engine - this is a 3-piece turbo hose set. The bigger flexible air-intake pipe on the left is an additional purchase.

Hi,

For the turbo hoses I used 50 - 70mm, get the 1/2" wide ones:
55mm-70mm Silicone Hose Clips Stainless Steel x1 | eBay

You could use that size for all of them, but I feel that the 90degree bend joint with the EGR needs a 'T'Bolt clamp as that is where oil fumes from the turbo tend to gather and seep through, eventually dripping off. A 'Jubilee' is not able to be tightened enough without overloading it. 'T'Bolts need to be more accurately sized as they have a smaller range.

So I used this 64 -67mm one:

The vacuum tube is pushed onto the dummy blank pin sticking out from the EGR by-pass. It was a pretty tight radius curve on the pipe so I reinforced it by sleeving it with a short length of tight fitting plastic petrol pipe.

Ah right got ya. I have the bypass but the vacuum pipe is cable tied on and looks a bit rubbish.
