Took my Freelander down the river for the first time this evening after my 'renovations'. Nothing too serious as its running 2WD at the mo, but was great to be out again in it.

I was piling (gently) down the poorly graded gravel tracks with stones pinging around when I remembered I forgot to put those 2 plastic side panels back in when I put the drip tray back in on Monday. Are they there to protect things in the engine bay?

I took it along these tracks...

I took the ones running along the north side of the river from the bridges to by the speedway track - a place locals call "The Banana Hole". Don't know why its called that, but its my fave Salmon spot. As Google hasn't got Street View on these tracks, this is a pic taken earlier in the year...

Nahhh mate. Tis a pucker Sea Run, not farmed supermarket tukka. Mind you next week I'm off down the canals - evidently 5,000+ 10 pounders escaped from Mount Cook Salmon farm the other day and its a free for all down there :)

It looks a fair size, not a fisherman mysen but if we had salmon like that in our local stream I'd be there! All we've got is rudd, tench and perch and bloody yank crayfish round here by all accounts...
It looks like a popular fishing spot on the sand bank by the motorway bridge looking at the link you've put up...

It was a good size, of course the really big one got away ;)

Hardly any course fishing here. The Waimak is a true sports fishing river. Good stocks of resident Brown & Rainbow Trout, big Sea Run Trout this time of year, from about Christmas is the Salmon run for about 3 months and at the mouth there's plenty of Kahawai and the odd King Fish. Right on the edge of town to.

I saw the picture after reading the heading, thought you were gonna say, you drove through the water and found that wedged in the car after

Up until this year, that would have been my most likely way for catching 1! Got it sussed now though hopefully.
