Ok Saintv8, will do.
How easy is it to check oil temp with IR thermometer, is it enough to point at sump?

(Sorry for all these questions)

Questions are how we learn.....so don't apologise.

That's how I measured the temp on mine!

If you are going to do it yourself...two things to note:

1. Make sure you can get the drain and level plug out...they can be sodding tight
and
2. Make sure you have a viable, working method of getting the new fluid in. I used a fence sprayer with the spray nozzle cut off!

Ok thanks - I've looked at your 'how to' a few times and no doubt a few times more before I do it. :)
By my calculations (if I've got my maths right) 3 drains, @ 6 litres each, and refills should equate to about 93% correct fluid (7% mixed which should include old but correct fluid).

Yes, that sounds right - and at £140 for a 20 litre container I suspect this is probably the most cost-effective and least risky route of getting your Dexron content down to below 4%.

He he .... My maths is not that bad after all :) I did it longhand (without spreadsheet) and got exactly the same figure. Now to follow Saints 'how to' and sort the mess out.

Thanks guys!!

I'll update when job is done.

Update:
Well after a lot of hassle over the ATF (including an awful amout of 'so called experts' wanting to use the wrong ATF), I eventually sourced 20 litres of the 100% correct 'Mobil LT71141' for £163 delivered. It has now been changed and already it feels different, changing better (especially down) an as yet no 'hum' or 'rumble'. However it is a matter of wait and see if it's done the trick. The oil that came out was totally the wrong colour (partially due to the idiot garage using Dexron) but didn't seem to have any bits in it.

Well I do hope you are sending them the bill.:)

I'm doing my best to prove/convince them they've fecked up, but you'd also be amazed who many 'experts' sing the praises of Dexron 3 and the so called equivalents!! Their excuse is always "well Land Rover would say use LT71141 wouldn't they"
If I don't get the right outcome from this 'garage' then I'll name them for all to know!!!

Get the ATF spec from the ZF site and maybe they will confirm it for you. If tha garage won't play ball, county court.
