In a bid to prevent thieving oiks from taking my beloved 300tdi Disco, I would like to add some extra security. I've already got a bright yellow steering wheel disklok and a working immobiliser, but the problem always remains that if the keys are stolen these measures don't do any good.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to do this but I though of disabling the starter motor by adding a switch into the starter relay coil feed as shown in the picture. Unless you know where the switch is, you can't start the car without doing something drastic like shorting the battery positive to the starter motor. Can anyone forsee a problem with this? If not I think I'll go ahead with it and report back incase anyone else wants to do the same.

p.s. Hi, this is my first post :D

Do it to another feed instead of the starter, if they have the keys they can bump start it to get round the starter cut (assuming it`s a manual box)

Thats ok just like i did in the black & white days with petrol engines and mechanical fuel pumps cut the circuit to the coil but you will still require a good alarm system with a battery backed up sounder so all that with the steering wheel clamp will be good.

There are servos to cut into the fuel line so your disco will stop a short distance down the road they can also have an an alarm interface, also there are electric bonnet locks and vehicle tilt sensors but where do you stop.

Bottom line is, cutting the fuel supply and a good alarm system combined with an immobiliser circuit.

Move to my part of the world and u can leave your disco unlocked over night as I do some times :)

How about the fuel cutoff solenoid then? Mr. Haynes makes reference to a fuel pump relay as well but I'm assuming this is only for the V8 version as both fuel pumps in the tdi are mechanical.

I've not tried it but I would guess that bump starting the 2 tonne diesel lump would require towing with another vehicle! Having said that pikeys never seem to be short of vehicles....
