Hi, my 2003 Disco TD5 has developed a fairly severe judder under braking, I would have been reasonably sure that it was warped discs, however, it came on very quickly; from no judder to as bad as it is now in the space of a week (100 miles ish). I can feel it in the pedal and the steering wheel, and the car in general shakes. Given that the discs are not that cheap I just wanted to be sure that this is the problem. Do I also need to change the pads, they are quite new?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Graham

Hi Graham, before you spend any money make sure of the diagnosis.

For instance are the front wheelnuts all done up tight? Is there any play in the front wheel bearings/track rod ends/suspension bushes?

Re the front brake pads, if you do end up changing the discs it would seem a false economy to continue with the existing ones. Here are some brake components prices from Paddocks:

Mate,

Bit of a pain to do but I would also try changing out your front tyres in turn with your spare....

Once had a tyre that the rubber outer wall had come away from the wire wall of the side of the tyre and caused similar results.

To look at the tyre you couldn't tell, it was only when rotating and put under load it became clear....

I've got the same thing going on with mine at the moment. I only changed the front disc about a year ago, wheel bearings checked okay. I had bad wear in the swivel bearings so I've got around to changing one side just waiting for a bit of time to do the other side. Will get back when i've done it and see if it sorts it.
