I was wondering if putting the rover 220 turbo tomcat engine into an mpi discovery would be a good idea? Would it be difficult?
Thanks steve

it was an idea my brother was looking into as I want a 3.9 v8 :D but I think it would be nice to see it done

one has been fitted to a Series - that was fun :)
if this is true - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rover_T-Series_engine, it is just a developement of the MPi lump.

"The M-Series was produced only in one cubic capacity - 1994 cc (2.0 L), and was a 16 valve development of the older British Leyland O-Series unit first seen in 1978. For the Rover 800, there were two different versions, with single point fuel injection (for the Rover 820e) or multi-point injection (for the 820i). The M-Series uses the same cylinder block as the O-Series unit as found in the Maestro and Montego, which mates with the Honda PG-1 manual gearbox.
In 1990, the M-series was also installed in the Rover 200-series, before being superseded in 1992 by the similar T-Series which was a development of the same design.
Turbocharged version[edit]

Tickford also tuned the M-Series engine which was installed in 536 models of the Rover 820 in 1991. This was nicknamed the Tickford Turbo. It needed to have its power capped: it is believed that marketing had a say in the final power output of the M16 Turbo:"

here are a couple of other quotes....

"Engine swap. Has anybody EVER replaced a 1.8K with better

It's certainly doable but will the character of the engine suit a landrover?
Mind you, I don't suppose it can be any worse than the current power plant...

LR did try it - but didn't follow it up, because it would take sales from the v8.

I quite like the idea myself - it would be best as a road car rather than an off reader, but should go nicely.

The T series doesn't lend itself to low down torque. Very good engine though, had a few tomcat turbo's, engine was the best thing about them. They do run very hot though and need a lot of cooling. MEMs ecu can be chipped or boost raised with a fuel cut defender to give nearly 250bhp on the std turbo.....then there's the T28 and bigger intercooler........

I have had lots of t-series turbos my last was running 320 bap I do believe you would have to re house the turbo as it would catch on the starter motor. But a t-series in a 1.8 freelancer is very doable but would as fwd and I don't think transfer box would take it.

Apologies for restricting a dead thread,I've just put a 620 ti engine in a 1985 defender an it's the balls. If you considering it all I can say is do it you won't be disappointed
