My front prop shaft failed two months ago no warning lucky no damage as was going slow at the time and only 1/2 mile from home. Truck has done 140,000 miles though as you say no grease nipples but book says unscrew blanking plug and fit one in for servicing. I bought a after market one from Rimmers A15 Lincoln this one has grease nipples fitted. Yes unhelpful comments don't do the posters any favours do they.

Its a fecking 400 year old land rover,if you can't fix it without crying then don't drive it and If you not breaking it then your not driving it right.

Jesus... holy thread revival... This must have been 7 years ago now.

You're missing the point here...

I've been a Land Rover enthusiast for many years and have had well over 30 of them including L322's, P38's, Disco 2's, Series LR's and Forward Controls. The reason this kicked off is because my vehicle had a full LR dealer history, had only covered 80k miles, and had only been serviced 3 WEEKS prior by LAND ROVER.

My vehicle dropped it's propshaft (without a whisper of warning) as I was doing 70mph in the middle lane of the motorway whilst climbing a hill on a busy Sunday afternoon. If this shaft had gotten caught between the twin track wheels on a lorry it could easily have flicked up through the windscreen of an oncoming vehicle and have caused unimaginable damage and possibly taken lives.

There is an inherent design fault with this joint. It's more of an issue on the V8 because the joint lives beside the catalyst for the O/S bank of cylinders (can't remember which now as it was a long time ago.)

Every time the joint heats and cools down the grease dries up that little bit more leading to the eventual failure.

I had collected evidence of over 150 failures on V8 Petrol models of Discoverys and had sworn statements from 5 specialists in various parts of the world (Australia, America, UK) including a master tech from a dealer who agreed with me.

The outcome is one that's not to be discussed unfortunately, hence no update on this thread.

Believe what you will...

There's only a few people that know the outcome and an NDA that was signed prevents anybody else from finding out.
