Disco Td5 problemo

Hi people,looking for some advice on my disco td5.The engine as started making a loud rattling noise at idle,but as soon as you put load on the engine the rattling disapears.It sounds to me like the timing chain is loose or tensioner as broke but struggling to find info using search option,any ideas good people,thanks Rob

Turbo or exhaust heat shield maybe?

Is it a tinny rattle or solid clanky rattle?

It is quite "possible" its the TV damper......Does it sound like marbles rattling around ?

Remove the AUX belt and run the engine, that will determine if its the engine, or something driven by the belt.

crank shaft pulley then.

whats involved with the fix Ratty ?

Check out the link that urban panzer posted above. If the crankshaft pulley starts seperating it is able to contact with the damper which is quite possibly the knocking noise you can hear.

ad rattle on mine bit back,was viscous cooling fan,was just little rattle sound on tick over.
