Hello everyone. Nice to be back. I know I don't have a disco anymore but my brother does. His 96 300TDi had a problem with the serpentine belt in shreds. I got a new one and fitted it for him and within minutes it was the same. On closer inspection it appears that the pulley on the PS pump is about 1/4" further forward than the rest of the pulleys. He had a HG done a few months back and we suspected the pulley could be the wrong way round but when you look at the pulley from underneath the car you can see the shaft. Is it possible for the insides of these pumps to come out like this? no sign of any fluid leaks at all.

BTW been looking on fleabay and autotrader and seen some very tempting deals on Disco 2s under 3K very tempted - whaddya think? Trouble with this new focus is it never breaks or needs any tinkering under the bonnet which makes it really BORING.....

Seriously any thoughts on the PS pump welcome.

James

eh up rev welcome back

not sure, but it shouldnt come out, maybe it can be adjusted abit? but surely ure belts should be straight?

and go for it you know u wanna! ;) remember, air suspension BAD!

Thanks Metallica, I really want a series 2 but not sure what to do. My heart wants one my head says whoa! my focus does 60mpg!

The pulley on the PS pump seems to be sticking out about 1/4" which makes the serpentine belt run up against the edge of the pulley and shreds it after a short while. Don't think you can adjust the position of the pump.

Thanks for the reply, I thought I had been blackballed for getting rid of the disco and mentioning things like 60mpg!

No! you're 'Black Balled' for uttering Dd dd ddd disco 2  :screaming_bug_eye_f

very strange, i'd take the belt off and see if there is anyway it will move back in, give it a go. and go for the disco 2 u know u wanna, the td5's a sweet engine! and there a good ride

better than a gaylander anyday, and anyways, when that focus does go, it will go spectaculaly and cost alot more than 3 fckin grand

Go on James I dare you I did I bought a 4.0L V8. I also supplied Dave via CG the number for M&M Land Rovers near Denbigh did he get in touch as they deal with the later Rover these days.

Andy.:)

Thanks guys, I have missed the banter and the disco. I can't believe how cheap they are now. A 300TDI ES like the one I had can be as cheap as £1200 or for about £3500 I could get a TD5 ES on an X plate which is unaffected by the new tax rules. Very tempted indeed to get another. Do you reckon TD5 or 300TDi, Manual or auto? One guy is advertising his TD5 auto and is claiming in his ad that it does 29 round town and 34 on a run.

Hi Rev, it was only a matter of time then before you're back!?!

the TD5 just brings a smile to my face every time, the engine is so sweet and the turbo just sings like a choir on a Sunday! 300 is an ol' tractor in comparison..

Hi Battenberg, yeah, really miss the disco. plenty of TD5s around. what about maintenance and ease of working on them?

easy to work on if you forget about the electrickery, which on the whole is quite reliable, rust just like any other disco though so buyer beware!

Get more than 12 out of mine James cruise control on and a sensible speed and the fuel drop is not too alarming, I'm sure if I hoofed her I'd be agreeing with you though.:)

Andy.;)

they shud be capped, besides its not that massive a difference i suppose.

that td5 is a bargain! beat yah to it rev;) well there practically the same for maintenence, just more hoses and wires. air bags at rear can be a pain and main prob is oil in injector harness. then theres the usual rust rust rust rust!!!! parts around the same as disco 1 depending on what u want. Same bits to buy! get it!
