Hi All,

i have just purchased a nice 1999 Disco 2 TD5 and after not long of picking it up the usual land rover qwerks are starting to come out!!!

When the engine is either hot or cold it doesn't matter there is a high pressure jet of air con refrigerant sprayed out of the bottom of the pump?? When the A/c is switched off it no longer does it?

A/C remains ice cold though and it only does it when the vehicle is stationary. Its quite a powerful jet almost like its overpressureizing?

Have tried to search anyone got any ideas?

Hi, get it to an aircon specialist cos it seems that the dual pressure switch is not working and a pressure test is needed to see that... the dual pressure switch must manage the pressure as to not get over the admitted limit, but if it doesnt work the presure will rise untill it blows out through the compressor's pressure release valve
"Air conditioning - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION 82-5" said:
To protect the refrigerant system from unacceptably high pressure, a pressure relief valve is installed in the outlet side
of the compressor
. The pressure relief valve is set to operate at 34.3 to 41.4 bars (497 to 600 lbf.in 2 ) and vents excess
pressure into the engine compartment
.

Dual pressure switch
The dual pressure switch protects the refrigerant system from extremes of pressure. The normally closed switch is
installed in the top of the receiver drier. If minimum or maximum pressure limits are exceeded the switch contacts
open, causing the compressor clutch to be disengaged.
.....
.... The maximum pressure limit keeps the refrigerant system within a safe operating
pressure.

...also the pressure in the system rises fast if the aircon fan is not working but as long as the dual pressure switch works it must not let it to get so high to open the compressor's pressure valve cos it stops the compressor at 32Bar

if you feel skilled enough to DIY and you have RAVE i'll tell you more
