Disco 2 Disco 2 - Shaky front window

2003 Disco 2

I have changed the electro-mechanical locks on three of the door over the years - all good. Just recently noticed the driver's power window is a little noisy (shakes/jitters a bit) when I press the button to lower it.

Is this the window carrier (not sure what the term is)? Buy a new one and install or just inspect/repair? Anyone familiar with this?

it's worth inspecting the mechanism inside the door to check for loose / broken parts as the next phase might be the glass dropping into the door / staying down. Not great when it's raining and you want park the car - lol.

Not difficult to get it all apart, lubricate, retighten and put back together again.
My front passenger window did exactly as you said, i.e. went down and wouldn't go back up, so as a temporary measure I got the door card and plastic moisture sheeting off, undid part of the mechanism to enable the window to be raised, then made a frame from wood and a bit of metal to hold it in place until I could get back to the UK and fix it. (It happened in Cherbourg just before we sailed back.) But if yours is working it shouldn't be as difficult as that!
There are threads on it on here and I even contributed some pics of mine as i was doing it, but I doubt I'll be able to find it quickly.
If I can find a link I'll put it up for you.
And don't be surprised by how much water comes out of the motor!!

Driver's window goes up and down fine, but when it goes down it's a little shaky/noisy. All other windows are fine. Remember with the locks that the driver's one went first (more use). Just wondering whether I should just buy a new mechanism first before I pull the door card off, or if it's usually something that's easy to fix - just tighten-up/lubricate? These things usually fail the same way more often than not and wondering what others had noticed?

Fantastic response! Water in the motor! Does that mean I might need a new motor as well?

Not necessarily, bizarrely!
I was in the strange position of having a "spare" (accident damaged but still usable) front passenger door. So I didn't need to worry about spares , ONCE I got home.
So I just took the door card etc off, took the mechanism out, checked it for broken teeth, there weren't any, simply the bolts holding the drive pinion off the motor to the frame for the mechanism had come a little loose so it was slipping. I dried out the motor and ran it up, it was fine, I seem to remember in fact I took the one off my spare door first just to see how to do it.
I am sorry it was a while ago and I am a bit confused!
But yours "shuddering" makes me think that maybe one of the side runners has come a bit loose or something meaning it isn't sliding up or down straight, which should be a very easy fix.

I must say, the Land Rover door internals access is way better than German cars! I have done three locks on the Disco, but please don't talk to me about VW! I changed a door lock mechanism on a VW CC - bloody nightmare of a thing that one - over-designed German vehicles!
