Bit of help please.
Decided after 28 months my front disc pads need changing
15 842 miles.Got pads(mintex from paddocks), removed first wheel and removed old pads. Surprise only approx 50% worn but because i had new pads i fitted them anyway to both wheels.Last lot from mintex were changed at 19955 miles. Is this good or bad? whats the thought.
next problem, bent the wheel key trying to remove wheels as they had been put on by airgun when new tyres fitted last December. Did straighten up a bit by using a tube but now not a happy bunny.
As far as I can measure, the wheel nut is 25mm, and what do you think about buying a 25mm socket with six flats inside and using a power bar to remove nuts in future.

cheers

Your best bet is to get a new set of lockers, and replace them saves all the hassle cheap from Paddocks too, SMALL amount of copper grease on the threads and the wheel contact area too. And as for your Pads check the calipers are not sticking on,20k in not unusual.

I'm reading your description and thinking that you mean wheel brace.....But then your title says wheel lockers.

Do you mean you bent the wheel brace or do you mean you damaged the locking wheel nut key?

I don't have lockers on my Disco. Only the standard wheel nuts with what seems to be a loose cap.
The basic wheel key has bent because of the force I had to use to loosen the wheel nuts.
Which is why I would rather use a Socket and power bar if this is a reasonable query.

Hi Jim, from memory D1 wheelnuts are 27mm and I would get a 6 sided impact driver half inch socket and use a long breaker bar with it. For info the torque setting is 140N/m.

Ratty,
pictures are perfect.thought my description was fairly easy to understand.
Some of us are a wee bit older and don't have fancy locking wheel nuts
but thanks anyway

I must admit I thought you were talking about damage to the locking nut.
Mainly because the locking wheel nut design is sh*t. I've damaged two of mine as the two lugs are becoming rounded off.
