diff?

Hi all had the Freelander for a while now I think it's a great car. Done a few things on it already but I seem to have a problem I hope you can help me with. Started to get a tight rubbing noise from the rear diff. Got a new VCU and fitted it hoping that would cure it checked the oil all OK still get the noise when on full lock any ideas.

Tightness on full lock, even with a fully functioning VCU D) is normal on a Freelander. It's part and parcel of the 4WD system employed on it. It shouldn't feel TOO tight though.

Where did you get your new VCU from, just out of interest, as there are good suppliers and bad. Check the many threads on here talking about who's good and who isn't. Fingers crossed you haven't bought a dodgy one...

Did you replace the VCU bearings at the same time? It's worth putting proper GKN ones on as they're the real deal.

Hi Creeeg I got the VCU and bearings from a guy who deals with Landrover old stock and sometimes gets freelander stuff. The thing is the old VCU is good so it was a bit of a waste of time changing it.Like I said it's the noise from the diff that's the worrying thing .Thanks for your replay.
