Hi, tried to look for information regarding defender 1998 heater upgrade but computer crashes when going into searches. That over can anyone help me. I have hot air up top but poor fan which is on a switch. Then at the bottom the flap doesn't open when I move the lever. Does anyone know if you can get more out the fan and how to fix lever.

Why is it that this subject comes up each winter!!!
There is nothing wrong with Defender heaters they work great. Blow loads of air nice and hot out if and only if they have been adjusted correctly.
Mine gets so hot that i have to turn it down and thats in a Defender with van sides, unfortantly not so warm in the back due to the bulkhead. Thats why i put a aux heater i made in the back plumb up to the existing front one. Made it from a matrix and fan out of a Volvo 440.

Re poor heaters,
If its not blowing hot air on your feet then check the cables are still attacheed behind the speedo. Move the levers and have a look at the heater box you should see the cable ends move, if not the speedo out to have a look.
If it is but the air is cold, try bleeding air out the matrix thats all i have ever had to do is bleed the air.

I am on my phone as away, but its in latest posts section. Very interested in that latest post. Will look closer at mine though its pretty good in the old td.

Must come up cause it's getting colder!!!!!!
I will check cables. I have hot air but the fan is poor.hardly blows but you can hear it working.

if its blowing and the cables move then the flap inside the heater box is not sealing or it might not be gtting enough air. check the air intake in the wing also the seal between the wing intake tube and the heater box

Check pipework behinnd dash. If fans working and not feeling the breeze could be a pipe has come adrift. Mine had that.
