I have a 2001 TD5 110 SW and want to put a central locking kit on it .

Have been looking on e-blag but the kits look a bit cheap un nasty, can any-bod recomend have any experience of these kits.

Cheers Jason

im just about to remove mine. PITA when it goes wrong. And you will want to tie it into your alarm if you have one.

If your going to do it(which i advise you don't) then make sure you give some thought to how the cables will get to the solenoids in the doors from the dash. Dont do what the numpty before me did and plastic tie the cable to the hinges!

It took me ages to replace cables and the scotch blocks he put in! Mine went wrong and was causing a short so the solenoid would engage but not engage sometimes and then engage 15 times a second(eventually causing the solenoid to wear out and seize)

So i disconnected it and now im back to manual.

Good when it worked but a pain in the ass when it didn't.

Thanks for that !

Hawk looks like one of the better kits, can see where you are coming from Ginga concerning door wire feeds ! happen get some rubber jobbies for doors with electric windows.

Kin sick of locking all the doors manualy (there are 5 of us ! )

Yep i would have to agree, i also have the hawk kit on my defender and works a treat. ( not so good in freezing winters :)
Only cost me £20 or so and didnt wire it to any lights are alarm just use it to same me putting the key in every time.

The hawk kit is bloody good value and a robust system
I bought on about 3yrs ago and fitted it to all the doors including the rear door and it has never let me down once and if you take your time and route you door wiring properly it fail safe
The rear door can be a pain to do but when it's all fitted and working its so nice to just op out and blip the remote and know your defenders locked
Gary.

Hi just go on eBay and search hawke car alarms and central locking kits if its for a 3 door get the 4 door kit and it comes complete and really easy to fit and never had a problem in 3yrs that mines been fitted
They are about £23 including postage so bloody good value and they have a help line if you encounter any issues when fitting
Only awkward bit was the rear door but well worth doing. Gary.

I just got one of these kits and they look great, I was wondering about the rear door as that is gonna be a sod to do; do you have any pics of how you did it?

I looked at doing this, and it seems the newer defender rear door locks have a bit sticking out to attach the solenoid too :)

Yes the newer ones do but the older ones can be done as well you just need to drill the rivets out and split the lock and attach the solenoid operating rod to the lock actuator and the reassemble and that's it. Gary.

Hi. I looked a the hawk lock systems that were mentioned on this thread. I emailed them to ask which would do my defender, 2 front doors and one rear (tailgate door) and they sent me a link to an item. I will attach a photo below. The kit seems to be for four doors, does the tailgate door use the same part as the front doors or is it looking like this kit only does side doors. Any help appreciated. If i cant get the tailgate to open with the cenral locking its not the end of the world, just would be handy! Thanks in advance.
