Defender 90 TD5 broken down a week after we bought it!

Hi guys, I’ve just bought a td5 defender 90 and it was starting great and ran like a dream but about a week after we bought it it won’t start. The engine just keeps turning over. We’ve changed the fuel pump and tried all the steps to prime it. it’s making a noise but seems to be doing the job, ECU works and the fuel filter seems fine - any suggestions on what we could do?
It’s just sat on the drive now, it’s a shame just got the thing and can’t drive it!!

Read the codes?
Checked the ecu and loom for oil ingress?
Checked all fuses and relays?
How do you know the fuel filter seems fine?

New pump seems to work as it makes a noise. Ecu did have oil on it but cleaned fully now. Fuel filter isn’t leaking and had a new one put on not long ago. We don’t have the codes unfortunately.

Well if you have oil in the ecu that means oil is migrating down the the engine loom to the ecu, and this oil is coming from the loom inside the rocker cover.
Not sure if this would cause a non start?

Any flashing lights on the dash? just thinking immobiliser fault? got a spare key?

I have had it myself where the ecu plugs were not fully in and caused a non start.

No oil leaks on the engine. No flashing lights on the dash either. All ECU plugs in okay. Not sure about immobiliser, will check this. Thank you! Hopefully

Sounds like it could be the usual immobiliser fault - lots of videos on youtube and quite easy to sort

Thanks for the welcome guys! The fuel pipes were in the wrong place from the previous owner. All fixed now with a new battery. Looking for places to go off roading near Chippenham, if you have any recommendations, it would be much appreciated! We used to go to foxham years ago but closed now unfortunately.

Salisbury Plain is very local to you and good for green laning. Not off roading though as they’re unsurfaced rights of way. There are several very good and responsible groups on FB.

We’ve joined some of the Salisbury plain groups and they look great, hopefully get a chance in the new year! Just over an hour away from us so not too bad. Just was hoping there was something a bit closer
