Freelander 1 Decision time...

So is it to early to ask if you'll be getting another Freelander?
You have been spectacularly unlucky with with this one. Many thousands of TD4s run faultlessly for many tens of thousands of miles, requiring nothing but simple maintenance.
Next time things could be different.

Its always difficult to know whether you're doing the right thing or not - but ultimately that car was probably meant to be passed on and given the pita that you know it has been and could still be - £1K in the bank is an awful lot better than more grief !

The TD4s are a funny beast. They're generally great engines, they have their faults and are generally fixed without grief - but occasionally (and not that infrequently!) 1 comes along that just does not want to be fixed!

Sad thing is i suspect that with a new battery ( and new battery bracket clamp as old one's bolt is just spinning so cant remove old one currently) it will probably make a good car as no codes have come back since they were cleared last and once its got some charge through it and the car remembers its actually got a battery fitted pulls and drives well

If it was just minor mechanical bits failing due to age/ mileage and not electrical i suspect i would have persevered with it

Definately wont be getting another FL 1 its put me off them if i'm honest, i did enjoy running it when it ran ok but this has left me with a sour taste in my mouth and eating humble pie with the mrs and comments of "told you so " re buying an old car so not a pleasant experience all round really,

I will be returning to the landy fold eventually probably when Freelander 2/ disco 3/4 come into my budget and all the bugs have been fixed by someone else but for the time being i'll have to make do with my little tdi golf and reading LMOM

The FL2 is a nice vehicle and coming down in price now. I'm thinking that I'll go that way, when retire my current SE.

i Know not nice

bloke who bought it turned up fitted a new battery and it still didn't start first time !

looks like the starter switch/solenoid is goosed as sometimes it will turn it over other times it will just clik so might have found the problem electrical area

i was dropping bricks thinking he'd be asking for his money back!!

yes my neighbour has one he paid just shy of £6k for it with 170k on the clock ( too high for my liking) and he loves it and apart from him ripping the driver's side step off whilst green laning he's had no issues with it

Wont be leaving the forum as AG is far too funny no to pop in daily
